Should I get Windows 8?
I want a cold hard answer, and I want it to be fair, no bias towards Windows 7 / Windows 8.
Main questions are if it's worth it (price goes up in January, so it's this month or never, and the fact that everyone will eventually switch to Windows 8 anyway, it'll happen?) I am aware of Classic Shell / Start8, so I don't mind the Metro UI that much. The only thing I worry about is compatibility, if anyone here is running Windows 8, please tell me if your programs / games work. It's December now, and apparently 'most' bugs are fixed, but still not sure. To put it simple, I just want to get this OS so I don't have to bother about it in the near future. It has faster boot time, better memory management, and lots more, the only thing that really puts me down is the compatibility. So, help please. Also, in-case you're wondering, I did run the Compatibility Program provided by Microsoft, and it look's usable, but I don't trust it. It doesn't really check games. Should I get it? |

I say wait a bit.
One of my co-workers have it and it has sub-par compatibility at the moment. I'm sure it can run Steam and at least 75% of the games on it. |

RE: Should I get Windows 8?
I wouldn't get it. It doesn't seem good. It looks like a windows phone. Even with the classic start menu thing, it still doesn't seem worth it to me.

RE: Should I get Windows 8?
In my opinion I don't like it. The metro design just doesn't work in my opinion. Now if they had a option where you could shut metro off and have the normal windows setup I would get it.

You have to pay extra?
Well shit, fuck that. Phoenix, don't get it, wait until there's a promotional thing or something to get it, where they cut the price in half or something. |

RE: Should I get Windows 8?
It's only like $30 now or something, but they're raising it in 2013 is what phoenix is saying. So it's pretty much either he upgrades now or never. Maybe you should buy it, but don't upgrade your pc yet until it is confirmed to be compatible and bug free and what not.

RE: Should I get Windows 8?
30$? Damn, that's a hard choice then.
If that's the case, I agree with maddawg, don't upgrade your primary PC. Perhaps upgrade it on some laptop/desktop you have sitting somewhere and test it out first? |

RE: Should I get Windows 8?
Yea but what I'm saying is you could always just buy it and let it collect dust for a while until you feel comfortable upgrading. I don't think you can use it to upgrade more than 1 PC. At only $30 who really gives a shit. If you end up never using it because you don't like what you've seen, then who cares. But if you spend a $100 to upgrade it, and hate it, then you're shit outta luck.

Don't get that piece of shit, my friend has it and it is the worst Windows OS I have seen so far, I would rather use XP or 98 than that garbage.

RE: Should I get Windows 8?
I have tried it in store and I talked to the clerk who was helping me buy my new key board and he and I had a discussion about it. We both agreed on the same thing, When we buy a computer it is for a computer not a windows phone or a tablet.

I love it honestly. When I want to use the metro side I use the metro side. Windows side works fine

So if there is anything else to argue about that doesn't concern the Metro UI, then please enlighten me. It's £20 until January. |

RE: Should I get Windows 8?
Whatever you do, don't get it off thepiratebay.se
Even though it's free, with extremely little to no risk of being caught, it's morally wrong. ![]() (03-31-2012 04:20 PM)Drakehawke Wrote: Marsh is banned from voting but likes to vote anyway and hope I don't notice. |

What makes it any different that I won't get used to this current UI? It's like none of you are reading, I don't care about the UI, stop posting about it being horrible, I get it. Put it this way, my primary concern is the compatibility of other programs from Windows 7, e.g. Steam + Games. So that's why I am asking people who have Windows 8 right now, and others. |
