"Old Wives' Tales" from your region?
I've recently become very interested in paranormal stories and urban legends regarding different regions around the world.
So, lets hear some that you folks know of. I'll start us off: Selling Salt To Ghosts "To sell salt to the ghost/s, bring a few packets of salt to a cemetery in the night and with your head facing down. Walk around the cemetary, if you see someone walking towards you. Just pass the salt and the ghost/s will pass you some leaves, just continue doing so until you finish your packets of salt that you bring inside the cemetary. When you are out of the cemetary, there will be numbers on the leave for you to buy lottery and the numbers definately come out. One important thing is not to look up and must always face to the ground and never never try to look at the face of the ghost/s." After researching said story, I learned that it is a variation of a similar tale that originates in Singapore. In other variations, you were given "hellnotes", which would transform into actual currency. I guess lottery numbers are the more westernized form if the story. RE: "Old Wives' Tales" from your region?
From my region? Sure, I got a ghost legend about a town by my home town that used to scare me while I was little.
The Sailors Wife There was a woman who was married to a sailor, they lived in a house upon a hill overlooking the sea. One night, the sailor had to go overseas so he said goodbye to his wife and left on his journey. Legend has it that the wife sat in the upstairs windows overlooking the sea, waiting for her husband to return. The sailor never returned and as the legend puts it, she waited in that very window until death for her husband to return. People who now own the house claim to experience various events throughout the house. That's all I could summarize, I was like.. 10 when I last heard this story.
