Problem with my new computer
It won't read my ethernet cord and the usb part of it gets burning hot in a matter of minutes for no apparent reason. Whenever I try to plug it in and get internet going it says usb not recognized or something. It was working fine before I put it in my new computer, I think it got burnt out or something :/
I will probably just get a wifi adapter for it (it doesn't have a wifi card) if the new internet I am getting tomorrow doesn't fix the problem.

RE: Problem with my new computer
No.

Also it has a burning plastic smell but that might just be because of the PSU being used for the first time.

What? No it's not. Something like this is more likely to happen with a built computer than a factory one.

RE: Problem with my new computer
If your PSU is smelling like burnt plastic something is seriously wrong. Return it to the store and demand an immediate refund before it burns your house down.

The PSU should NEVER smell like something is burning, if it smells like it is, its because something IS burning.

No offence, but that's probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard from you. You're implying that a computer you build your self is less likely to break than one you buy pre-built? I mean, aren't the pre-built computers built by professionals or even robots?

Yes. But pre-built often use used parts, and comes fully assembled on arrival. This means that as the computer is already fully assembled (and not having all the parts wrapped up in 5 feet of bubble wrap individually), there's a higher chance of shock damage whilst transporting.
Plus, not all distributors do quality control on their parts before building computers, and barely turn them on to install the OS.

My prebuilt computer had all sorts of protective packaging on the inside. You would think that building your own computer you would have a higher chance of fucking it up. I've always heard that there's a 1/4 chance that a part is DoA when you build your own.

Nah, only if you buy from dodgy sites.
And that protective packaging isn't enough if it's dropped on the floor.

Only if you know what you're doing and get quality tested parts. Plus, depends on the prebuilt salesman.

RE: Problem with my new computer
My brother has built a plethora of computers over his lifetime, and he never had received a DoA part. Really, if you want to get a computer, just build one yourself, it isn't as hard as it seems to be, and it's well worth it in the long shot in the event that something happens to a specific part and you have to replace it.
